Catered Crop–Seeing Red

Hello!  I’m back. I’m sorry I have been gone so long.  Things have been so hectic that I haven’t had the chance to spend time in my craft room for months.  I was able to sneak away to my craft room for a while this weekend and hope to make it a regular event.

I decided to use the Catered Crop’s Seeing Red recipe swap and take the opportunity to cook up some note cards to give to my mother in-law.  Although I only had time to make 4 cards, it was great to spend time in my craft room again.

Catered Crop–Think Green Recipe Swap

The latest Catered Crop recipe swap is up!  With Earth Day on April 22 and National Arbor Day on April 25, it’s the perfect time to Think Green. Just make a project that includes the color green and come join our party at the Catered Crop.

For my project, I dug out a photo of of our sweet Summer was taken about a year ago.   Although I have been pretty lax about scrapbooking the last few years, I really wanted to make sure I created a page with this photo for my daughter’s scrap book.   We lost Summer, who was a member of our family for almost 15 years, in February so this page seemed especially important to me.

2014-04-15 CC Green WM

After finding some paper that used a lot of green in it, I used lots of various odds and ends that I found in my craft room.  I mixed various stickers and die cuts from other projects to create this page.

As always, Linda has curated a fabulous Pinterest board to get our create mojo working.  (Don’t you just love her boards?)    You can go directly to Linda’s “Green”board by clicking on the photo below.  (I was totally excited to see that one of my projects was on the board!  Woo hoo!  It makes me feel like a crafting celebrity.)

Catered Crop Recipe Swap – Put A Bird On It

Hello & Happy Monday!

Linda over at the Catered Crop has cooked up another fun recipe swap – Put A Bird On It!   How fun is that?!

I love birds.  I love watching them at my many feeders, their antics in the bird baths, and building nests.  I love keeping an eye on their eggs and watching the progress of their hatchlings.  I love watching them fly across the sky in big flocks or long V’s signaling the change of the seasons.   Given my love birds, you can probably guess that I have tons of stamps and digital stamps of birds in all their various shapes and sizes, bird nests, and bird houses.  But, when I was looking for something to use for my Catered Crop project, nothing caught my interest.

As I was digging through my stash, my little Senegal parrot, Corky, was working really hard to get my attention.  He was whistling, blowing kisses, and using all his best phrases like “You are such a good, good boy”, “Give me a kiss”, “What are you doing?”, and “Come on, come here.”    Then it hit me, I had the perfect bird to put on it!   Meet Corky!

2014-03-30 CC Bird WM

This little guy has been with me almost 23 years!  When I got him, I was told Senegals generally live 10-12 years and may learn 1 or 2 words .  Wrong!  Now life expectancy estimates are up to 50 years and I have lost track all the words, phrases and sounds he knows.

As always, Linda has curated a fantastic Pinterest board to get our creative mojo flowing.  Here is a peek.  Click on the photo below to go to the board.

    Fencing is Hard Work

Happy Monday!  Over the last couple of weeks, I decided to go back to my paper crafting roots and try my hand at some scrapbooking pages.

I love this photo of Liz.  My husband snapped it during fencing practice a couple of weeks ago.    When I watch fencing, the athletes make it look so easy and balletic, that I almost forget that is it such a physical sport.  I took some fencing lessons last year so that I could learn more about the sport that is my daughter’s passion.  To say I was a “hot mess” when I was done is an understatement.

If  you would like to learn more about fencing, here is a info graphic from the Guardian for the 2012 London Olympics that gives a great over view.   (slide 8)

In other, related news, earlier this month, we found out that Liz was picked to be a Taste Agent for Skratch Labs.   Skratch Labs products are designed to optimize performance using real, all-natural ingredients.  (You can read all the details on the Skratch Labs website.)

    Catered Crop Recipe Swap–Spring Fever

Although it seems like this crazy winter will never end, I think spring is finally around the corner.  I know it’s sort of dopey but it always makes me happy when I see the first robins and red wing black birds come back for the summer.  (I saw both this week!)

The latest Catered Crop recipe swap is “Spring Fever”.    As I already mentioned, different types of birds always make me think of spring.   When I was trying to decide what image to use for my Spring Fever project, I decided that almost nothing says spring more than bird’s nests and eggs.

    2014-03-17 CC Spring 2 WM

I love this image!  Wryn reminds me of my daughter (and a little bit of myself).  Every spring a bird will build a next in a bush we have next to our front porch.  We both loving watching their progress - building the next, laying the eggs, chicks hatching and lastly getting ready to fly away.

The Catered Crop has a recipe challenge for every one.  Who doesn’t need birthday cards?    I always feel like I am rushing to get them done and popped in the mail on time (or only a little late).  So this is your chance to get a couple birthday cards made before the last minute!  Yeah!

I escaped for a while into my craft room on Sunday afternoon. Wouldn’t you know that I finally find time to get up there and then  I can’t come up with a single idea.  That is when Pinterest really comes in handy.   After surfing around for a bit, I was inspired by this beautiful card by Joy Taylor at Simple by Design.  I used different papers and changed the layout a bit.

    My Heart is Yours

Hello!  I have another card to share with you today.  I made this last week when I was able to sneak off to my craft room for a while.

    2014-02-03 M VD Card WM

It was a really busy week.  My daughter played the clarinet at Band-O-Rama on Wednesday.  I was so proud of the kids. They all did a great job.  (Although I have to say I won’t miss her practicing the best of Queen on the clarinet.  Some things, like Queen and clarinets, just don’t go together.)     We also found out she was picked as a “Taste Agent” for Skratch Labs.  It is her first sponsorship/endorsement for fencing.  Yeah!  Mix in basketball practice, drama rehearsals, cheerleading for the boy’s basketball team, and playing the piano, she is one busy kid.   (I’ll take this moment to brag she is also on Honor Roll.)  I asked her if she like being so busy and if she was sure she wanted to participate in so many activities and I received a resounding “Yes!”.    As long as she keeps her grades up, I’m okay with it.

My job has been keeping me really busy all winter.  The new job I took last year is in logistics.  With all the terrible weather we have had across the country this year, it has really kept me on my toes and has cut into my crafting time.  I hope the groundhog was wrong and we see spring, and some better weather, soon.

That’s it for this week.  I’ll leave you with another look at my card.  Have a great week!

    Remembering 2013

The Catered Crop recipe swap for the entire month of January is “Remembering 2013”.  We’ll eventually get back to our regularly scheduled program . . . but for the month of January, here’s our how Catered Crop Recipe Swap will roll.

    • Create a blog post, online gallery (Pinterest, Flickr.com, Shutterfly.com, etc), or online album (Facebook, etc) with your favorite projects from 2013. Just use the Inlinz button on the Catered Crop blog  to link  to that blog post or gallery.
    • If you’re not a blogger, just got started and don’t have a full year of projects yet, or just don’t have the time to review, select and write about your favorite projects, that’s okay. We don’t want to leave you out. Just give us a link to your one favorite project of the year. But, please, for this challenge only, give us only one link. (We don’t want 12 links by everyone who participates.) For this challenge it’s absolutely okay to back link to an older post.
    • Include a link to us at Catered Crop or add our button, which you can grab on our sidebar or at our {button gallery}.
    • Be sure you link up by 8:00 PM EST on Saturday, February 1.
    • Keep the party hopping by visiting the other players and leaving comments.
    • Check back on the Catered Crop blog on February 2 to see if you’ve won an opportunity to be a guest designer for our next challenge as the best of the best.
