Memorial Day Sale at mygrafico

For today (Monday, May 31st) only, mygrafico is having a Memorial Day sale. All products in the shops are 30%. This would be the perfect time to pick up some digital stamps sets or SVG files from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff.

If you like the strawberry preserves card that I made last week, it is from Lindsay's Pretty Primative digital stamp set. It also includes cherries which are very trendy right now.

Sew Pretty is another fun, trendy set filled with cute sewing items. I made this card with it.

If you are looking for a patriotic set for summer and the Fourth of July, the Patriotic Collection would be perfect.
The sale price is also on the new files. (Check out Most Tools for Father's Day)
Have a safe and happy Memorial Day! Thank you to all the men and women in the armed forces!

Thankful with Sentimental Sundays

I am going to keep this post short and sweet. It is the Memorial Day holiday weekend here in the United States and I am sure you have fun things planned

This week's theme on the Sentimental Sundays Challenge blog is "Thankful". I decided to make a card for my daughter's teacher. I broke out my brand new pad of Thrift Shop paper from October Afternoon. I LOVE this paper. (I was excited to hear that Archivers is going to start carrying October Afternoon! Woohoo!)

I was inspired to pair up the sunny yellow paper with the black & white polka dot paper after seeing this photo for the EtsyInspired Challenge.

I also prettied up the inside.

Please join us and share your "Thankful" cards for a chance to win some wonderful digital sentiments from Raindrop Echo Designs. Stop by the Sentimental Sundays blog to see the rest of the inspiration from the DT and to download this week's free sentiments.

Take a moment to remember our fallen heroes this weekend. If you would like to make a card thanking our men and women in the armed forces, Ann from Raindrop Echo Designs offered these fabulous freebies, For Our Troops, for your use.

Thank you for looking! Have a happy and safe holiday week end.

Silver & Gold Challenge with Meljen's Designs

I made this card for Memorial Day which is quickly approaching. My original intent was to use this card to write a thank you note to our troops and post it to them through Operation Write Home. But then I spaced out and used glitter on the card which is not allowed for OWH cards (due to safety concerns). Since we usually have troops home on leave in our local Memorial Day parade, I will try to remember to bring it along and hand deliver to some one.

The new challenge on the Meljen's Designs Inspiration & Challenge blog is "Silver & Gold". I have silver brads and used a gold glitter pen on the little stars. This dove is Stars & Stripes Dove from the new Meljen's Release, In Loving Memory. These images can be purchased individually or in the set at a discounted price in the Meljen's Designs digishop. Remember you also have the option to create your own pack of 2 or 5 of your favorite images to get a discounted price. Here is a peak at the In Loving Memory release.

Melissa is also releasing a few other individual stamps today. (You can also create your own pack of 2 or 5 for a savings.)

To help keep a little silver and gold in your pocket, here is a coupon you can use on Meljen's Designs images over the Memorial Day holiday.

I hope you will join us for this week's Silver & Gold challenge. You do not have to use a Meljen's Designs image, but we would love to see you use one if you can. You can link up your card and see the DT inspiration pieces HERE.

Please take a moment to look at my 2nd post today. My Lindsay's Stamp Stuff post is HERE.

Thank you for looking! Have a safe & happy Memorial Day!

Pizza for you!

Okay, maybe not a pizza, but a pizza box. I made this pizza box to hold the "Get Well" card I made for the Sentimental Sundays challenge. I am planning on mailing the card in a padded envelope but I wanted to add an extra layer of protection.

When I was practicing making roses (tutorial HERE), I made a few extra. I decided to use them on the box although they might get crushed in the mail.

I still have to clip the ribbon. I don't want to clip until I am ready to mail it in case I need to make any adjustments.

Have a great day!

Paper Roses.....

Do you remember that song from Marie Osmond? I know, I know, I am probably aging myself but every time I see all the paper roses every one is making on their projects, this song runs through my head. Well, at least this one lyric does. I really don't remember the rest of the song. I only remember hearing it play on the radio in the kitchen while my mom was cooking breakfast when I was a kid. So after watching this video by Lollychops I thought I would try my hand. I know a lot of other tutorials on making these are out there in blog land, but I found this one the most useful.

The theme this week on the Sentimental Sundays Challenge blog is "Get Well". I took the opportunity to make a get well card for my boss who is on medical leave. I hope this will brighten her day a little bit.

And here is a look at the inside.

I hope you will join in on our Get Well challenge. Stop by the Sentimental Sunday Challenge blog to see what the rest of the DT is up to and pick up your free digital sentiment set.

Sew Happy!

I'm sew happy with the way this card worked out! I think my mojo is back!

I am not much of a sewer (translate that to sewing on a button is pushing the limit of my skills) but I love all the sewing themed cards that I have seen on the blogs and forums lately. Of course I am partial to Sew Pretty from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff.

I used the buttons from Sew Pretty to decorate the inside of the card too. (Sorry, I just noticed a little bit of the pop dot sticking out. I don't have time to retake the photo but I did fix it up.)

Updated 5-21-10: I am so excited. My card got a mention for the Just Us Girls color challenge!

Please take a moment to see what the rest of the DT is up to.

I don't have a lot of chit chat today. I just wanted to get this cutie off my work table and onto a card. I also took the opportunity to use up some scraps and odds & ends. (Thank you Scrap-It-Girl for the ticket!)

Don't forget you still have time to enter the Meljen's Designs Flowers & Blooms challenge. On Thursday there will be a new challenge and a new release. (I've seen it and LOVE it!)

Sentimental Sundays - New Beginnings

This my first post as a member of the Sentimental Sundays Design Team. I am in awe of the creativity and talent of the ladies on this team. It will be fun to push myself to measure up to their talents.

We are already changing things up. The Sentimental Sundays challenge will now be weekly instead of bi-weekly. That will give you more opportunities to play along with us.

The theme for our challenge this week is "New Beginnings". I chose to make a card for the administrator of my daughter's school who will be retiring at the end of the school year. When my daughter gets teary-eyed about Mrs. Wright's eminent retirement, I remind her how happy we should be that she can retire in good health and at a young enough age that she will be able to enjoy herself. Her retirement is the beginning of a new stage in her life; one I hope she enjoys. It is also a new beginning for the school with a new administrator.

The card above is actually the second card I made. In case it is difficult to read, it is a quote from Catherine Pulsifer that says, "Retirement may be an ending, a closing, but it is also a new beginning" and typed into and printed using Word. I decided to use some different papers and brighter colors on the remake because my husband said my first card looked too much like a sympathy card. (You can see it below). On both cards I tried the ruffled ribbon technique. It was the first time I tried it and I really like how it looks. (Although the shape of the yellow ribbon keeps reminding me of my Swifter duster.... Maybe that is just my subconscious telling me to dust. )

Here is the original card. Since my mojo has been lacking all I did is switch up the papers while leaving everything else pretty much the same.

Since I really don't need retirement cards too often, I remade the original card into a Sympathy card using a sentiment from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff Leaf Prints digital stamp set.

I hope you will join us for the Sentimental Sundays challenge - New Beginnings. Stop by the blog to see all the eye candy from the DT and get your free "New Beginnings" sentiment set.

Did I hear "Cupcakes"?

Marlene, from Disguised as a Grown-Up, drew this stinkin' cute chef which was the freebie this week at The Digi Shack. What a gal! She can crack me up, make awesome cards and now she creates digis too.
.
See that cute paper in the back ground. I snagged it from my daughter's stash (after asking of course). Boy it sure felt good for the shoe to be on the other foot - usually she is digging into my crafting stash.
.
Well it's getting late and I need to hunt down something to satisfy my sweet tooth since we don't have any cupcakes in the house.
.
Thank you for looking! Have a great week end!

Under the Weather? Lindsay's Stamp Stuff

This past weekend when I was working on my DT cards, I was seriously lacking mojo. I was really struggling to create anything. Since I need some get well cards for several friends and family members, I decided to just push through and work on some cards for them. I skipped flowers and frills so I can use this for a man. Although the scalloped strip looks crooked above, it is straight. The card opens there and it is partially open making it look crooked.

This picture shows the opening a little better.

The umbrella is paper pieced using Puddle Fun. Check out how cute this set is. It brings a smile to my face every time I look at it.

Please be sure to stop by the rest of the DT to see their lovely eye candy and Lindsay will have a new freebie posted on her site. The DT posts will be up by 10 am ET. Leanne will be back with us next week.

Tea-rrific Mother's Day with Lindsay's Stamp Stuff

I made this card for my husband's grandmother for Mother's Day. The cup is paper pieced using Lindsay's Tea-rrific digital stamp set. I recently rediscovered this paper in my stash and love it. Unfortunately it has been discontinued. (Insert frowny face here.) My card looks much prettier in real life. The heart and leaves were sprayed with glimmer mist and are nice and sparkly. I messed around with it in Photoshop, but since I really don't know what I am doing, this is the best I could get it.

Lindsay's Stamp Stuff is also now on Facebook. Go check it out and become a fan.

Lindsay decided to combine her two DT's into one team that will post on Thursdays. This is our first week posting all together. I am so thrilled to be working with so many talented ladies. Please stop by their blogs and leave them some love.

Mother's Day with Sentimental Sundays

If you are my mother in-law, Pat, please close this.......

No peeking....

Waiting....

Tapping fingers....

Okay, here we go.

I created this card for Mother's Day and for Sentimental Sunday's second challenge "For that Someone Special". I am so blessed to live near my mother in law. She is a wonderful lady, active in the community, at the senior center, her church, and with her Red Hat ladies. She is smart and fun. She loves spending time with my daughter and often invites her over for an overnight stay (much to my husband's and my joy and appreciation.) I wanted to make sure I had a special card for her for Mother's Day.
.
I found this quote on The Quote Garden and printed it using MS Word. In case you have problems reading it in the photo, it says "Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs...since the payment is pure love." I wonder if the person was referring to SAHM's? I think all mom's are full-time mothers. Even when we are away from our children, they are not far from our minds. We are constantly worrying, planning, and remembering. My daughter is only 8 - I wonder if that is going to change when she gets older.
.
I hope you will make a card "For that Someone Special" and join us in the Sentimental Sunday's Challenge. Ann also has a freebie posted.
.
Now to the details on my card. A complete supplies list is shown below. I colored the pearls with my Prismacolor marker (Eggshell) because they were just too white. You probably can't really tell the difference in the picture but they now look slightly off white instead of bright white. The foliage (?) and butterfly punches were sprayed with Tattered Angels pearl glimmer mist and have a nice shimmer. You can see it on the butterfly in the picture but it gets lost on the foliage. The card is much prettier in real life.
.
I hope you have a wonderful Sunday. Thank you for looking at my card. I hope you will join us at Sentimental Sundays. You have 2 weeks to enter.

.

Monsterously Good Birthday

I won the cute Critters & Cogs set from Polly Craft and could not wait to use it. Although I like all the images in the set, for some reason, this big hairy guy is my fav and I had to break him out first. I think he reminds me of "Where the Wild Things Are". So I made this birthday card for the son of a friend who is turning 6.

The "6" was made by using my Cricut and George cartridge out of an old cereal box. I love recycling!
