Take care of your heart!

American Heart month and National Wear Red Day are right around the corner. Be sure to show your support and speak up against heart disease by wearing red on Friday, February 5th. Together we can bring a voice to the number one killer of women and help save lives. By listening to our hearts, talking to doctors, and spreading the word to others, we can build awareness and drive action. This cause is very near and dear to my heart as I lost my mom to heart disease when she was 52. Please arm yourself with knowledge and help make others aware.

You can find more information on Go Red for Women, American Heart Month, and heart disease at the Wear Red for Women and American Heart Association websites.

You can get a free Wear Red for Women pin to wear on February 5th or every day HERE.

Learn the signs of heart attack and stroke HERE. Remember, women do not always experience "typical" heart attack symptoms and need to be more wary.
Take care of your heart!

Happy Birthday Easel Card

I was inspired to try an easel card after seeing the adorable card that follow DT member Karin made HERE a few weeks ago. I dare you to take a look at it and not say "Awww..." It is soooo cute! You can find the tutorial for your very own easel card on Splitcoast Stampers HERE. They are a lot easier than they look and a ton of fun to put together.

I used the sketch from the Makeup 4 the Weekend challenge #13. This card also qualifies for the Sunday Stamptacular Challenge - #43 Pop-Up and the Paper Sundaes second challenge.

I also tried out the scrunched flowers that seem to be so popular everywhere lately. You can find a tutorial HERE. I did make one using a scallop as shown in the tutorial but it was too big for my card layout. For this card, I used my small 5-petal flower punch instead. I spritzed them with a little Pearl Glimmer Mist to give them some sparkle and let them dry while I made the inside of my card. (True confession time: I hated using book pages for these even though I think they look really cool. It is against my nature to damage a book. In fact, I feel so guilty about defacing a book I think I am going to have to go eat a piece of chocolate. Hmmmm...to bad I don't have any cupcakes on hand.)

Speaking of cupcakes, I love Lindsay's Sweet Stuff digital stamp set. You can use it for almost any occasion. I used it for a birthday card in this post and HERE and you can see a card I made for Valentine's Day HERE.

Lindsay also has some new, cool stuff in her Mygrafico store. Go check out the digital papers, SVG files, and templates. She also has some cute digital stamps (in addition to the one used here) that are perfect for Valentine's Day.

I was able to figure out the problem I was having with my new blog design. I have a few things left to tweak but am pretty much done. What do you think? If you are interested in personalizing your blog, I recommend the Blog in a Box packages from Sweet Shoppe Designs. They actually are pretty easy to use. I think I had a problem because I wasn't feeling too well and had problems following the easy installation instructions.
.
Well, I am going to sign off for the day. This is a rather chatty post for me. Please leave me some comments. I love, love, love reading them.
.

While you are out blurfing today, please stop by the rest of the DT and leave them some love. They are:
Supplies:
  • STAMPS: Sweet Stuff digital stamp set by Lindsay's Stamp Stuff and It's Your Day by Close To My Heart

DD's projects and a challenge blog for kids

My DD is going to enter this card in the Little Hands Do Crafts challenge #2 animals. She did this card completely by herself, including using the paper cutter (with supervision). If you haven't seen it, this is a new challenge blog that encourages kids to get involved with crafting. (Thank you Rhonda from SBS29 for giving me the heads up.)

She also has been very busy the past week working on her first research paper and poster board for school. (Yes, 2nd grade!) The paper was due last Friday and her poster board is due next Friday but we decided to get it done this week end. (They were encouraged to type the information for the board and had to use at least 5 pictures.) We helped, but she did the research, filled out the questionnaire for the paper, chose and arranged the info. I did print out the letters using my Cricut to help her. My husband also suggested getting one of those greeting cards where you can record a message but using cougar sounds from the internet. She really enjoyed doing this project and is looking forward to her presentation next week. (Funny fact: My first research paper (that I remember) was on cougars.... Strange how that happens.)

I'll be back tomorrow with my Lindsay's Stamp Stuff DT post.

Check this out!

I just had to share this post called 100 Extraordinary Examples of Paper Art. I heard about it from Pockets of Inspiration. All I can say is "Wow!" or maybe "How the heck did they do that?" This is paper crafting on a new level. Enjoy.

Also, please be patient with me this week end. I am updating my blog template mostly on my own (not using a premade template). I am taking a step into something new for me. If it all goes poorly, you will still see this template at the end of the week end. Keep your fingers crossed!

You Give My Heart Wings!

** Updated - This card made the Pink Elephant top 15.

Happy Wednesday! I had this new image from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff new Love Grows Here digital stamp set printed and sitting on my desk. I thought I would try shading (as much as you can do with Stampin' Up markers). While I was at it I thought I would try putting together some colors that I don't usually use or at least don't normally use together. This is what I came up with. My DD thinks that there should be more glitter and bling. What do you think?

My card also fits the following challenges:
Practical Scrappers - Embossing
Creative Inspirations Challenge - #43 New Year, New Products
A Spoon Full of Sugar - Challenge 87-Lots of Layering
Crafy Creations - Challenge #51 Valentines or Love

Now where did I put that paper?

This card did not turn out anything like I originally imagined it. Lindsay (from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff) challenged the What's Digital Stamping group on Yahoo to make a project using stuff from the scrap bin. I dug through mine and found a piece of cute pink, blue, and yellow baby paper left over from the days I was scrap booking my daughter's baby pictures. I colored the bunny to match the paper. Then when I started to put the card together, I could not find that piece of paper anywhere. Grrrrr.... So this is version #2 with out the cute baby paper, but still using paper from the scrap bin. All the paper except the card base and the image were scraps.

This card also qualifies for the Clearly Delightful Blog theme challenge (
CDBC1) to use bunny rabbits on your project, Mygrafico's challenge #31-Yellow, and the Digital Tuesday Challenge #41-emboss it.

If you like this digital image, you can get it at the Lindsay's Stamp Stuff shop on Mygrafico.com. Did you know it is Mygrafico's 1st anniversary and that they are having a sale? Take 25% off your order up until midnight (GMT) today, January 15th.

A Day of Good News

Monday was just one of those great days. In the morning, I got the good news that my card "All You Need Is Love", which you can see HERE will be featured on SNR Card Universe.
.
Then, I got an email telling me that one of my cards is going to be published in the Scrapbook News & Reviews online magazine. I am so excited.
.
I had already planned a post to share a few pictures that I took this week end before it got too cold to play outside. I'm going to sneak them in here.

This is my daughter throwing snow at the camera. Look at that snow pile!
.
.

This is Summer. She loves to dig in the snow and play with the kids.

She still acts like a puppy even though she is almost 11 years old.
.

.

This is Allie (being held by DH). She says it is time to go in.

I know she looks pathetic, but she really was having

fun just moments ago.

.

.

This is my Senegal parrot Corky.

He stayed in the house and played in his nice new granola bar box.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Monday with Lindsay - All You Need Is Love

Updated: This card was featured on SNR Card Universe and published in the January 2010 edition of Scrapbook News & Reviews

All you need is love.... Love is all you need...

Ever since I saw Lindsay's new set "Love Grows Here", I have had this song in my head and the idea for this card. Take a look at how cute this set is. I especially love this little bird.

I like him (her?) so much that I used him twice on my card. I printed both birds at 15% of size using MS Word. I flipped the second bird horizontally so that she was facing the other way. I love that you can do that so easily with digi stamps. I paper pieced the birds' bodies and colored the beaks, legs, and the heart using markers. (I cut the card from the 2nd bird's beak before adhering.)
The sentiment was also printed using MS Word. I printed out the letters I needed with plenty of spacing in between. I sponged the page with Distress Ink in Tea Dye and then cut the letters out and attached them to the heart.

The heart was cut using the Wild Card Cricut cartridge at 4". I attached to the 5X5 card base. I then cut the heart shaped liner at 3-3/4" and sponged the edges. I have not put a sentiment on the inside yet because I am not sure who I will give it to.

I ended up going back and adding the faux stitching. You see it on the first picture of the card but I forgot to take another picture showing the inside before my hubby left with the camera. (Note to self: If you want to do faux stitching, get it done before adhering everything together. Much easier that way.)

Monday with Lindsay - Recycling challenge

Good Morning Ladies!

I have to say that I am glad that the kiddos are back in school today and life will return to our normal schedule. As great as vacation is, I am one of those strange people that miss the every day routine.

Lindsay, of Lindsay's Stamp Stuff, is running a challenge on the What's Digital Stamping yahoo group and asked the DT to join in. The challenge is to make a project using a digital image (stamp, coloring page or ding bat font) and at least one recycled item. All entries before January 7th will be entered in a drawing for a stamp of your choice from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff shop. If you are new to digital stamping and are looking for some free images, take a look at Lindsay's blog or on MyGrafico, there are plenty of freebies on both.

**UPDATE - If you don't want to join the group, link your project in my comments and you will be entered in the drawing. Good luck!

To get started on the challenge, I used the sketch from Just Us Girls (JUGs) sketch challenge #14. I decided to recycle a coffee cup sleeve that was on my desk and make a coffee themed card. I just couldn't find any buttons or fibers in my stash that seemed right to use on the card. About that time, DH complained that we needed to clean the basement and I remembered that my grandmother's sewing box was down there. I have not looked in the box for years (I do not sew) and I definitely haven't looked since I started paper crafting. Oh the treasures I found! A large jar of various buttons - most rather mundane but some really cool ones - and thread and embroidery floss of many colors. Most of the buttons were too large to use as centers of these flowers, but I found one to use. I also used some of the floss that I found.

Going through the box really brought back some lovely memories of my Grandma. She always had her sewing box (imagine a large, wooden tackle box with legs) in her bedroom and I spent many hours as a kid stringing buttons on thread to make necklaces.

Now for the rest of the info on my card. This cute image is from Lindsay's coffee jitters border. It is a freebie on her site. (You could download and use it for the challenge....) The sentiment comes from her Coffee Talk digital stamp set. The flowers were inked using Sorbet ink from Close To My Heart (CTMH) and a brayer then lightly sprayed with pearl Glimmer Mist (some of my goodies from Christmas). The rest of the supplies are listed at the bottom of this post.

Other challenges this card is entered in:
Crafy Angels - week 16 - Recycle

Stamp Somethings Challenge - New Somethings

Stamp Simply Challenge - #120 New Things!

Rainbow Lady's Challenge - #84 New

Mygrafico - Out with the old, In with the new

I also have a goodbye and a hello to share with you. Joy will be leaving the LSS DT after this week. You will still be able to see her wonderful projects on her blog. Tanya will be joining the LSS DT starting today. Please be sure to leave her some extra encouragement for her first week with us.

Sisterhood of the Blogging Stampers #29 (SBS29)

I am excited that the Sisterhood of the Blogging Stampers (#29) is finally kicking off. I have only been blogging since the beginning of October but feel that I have already learned so much and made new blogging friends.

Okay, about me.... I don't know about you, but I have a hard time writing about myself. I am a wife, mother, and sister. I have been married to my husband, Mike, for 11 years. My daughter, Elizabeth, is 8 years old. Occasionally you will see a picture of her or of a project she has made. We have 2 dogs and 1 parrot. All three are quite the characters.

I am lucky enough that my employer lets me work from home. I also have a reduced work week of 30 hours so that I can spend more time with my family. I have been with the same company for 12 years but have had several different positions including Sales & Marketing manger, Account Manager, and currently Operations Manager.

Although I have always been involved in one craft or another, I only got involved with paper crafts over the last several years. It all started with going to a Creative Memories party at a friend's house which led to scrap booking.... Lots of money later, here I am. Now I prefer card making to scrap booking.

I am a member of the Lindsay's Stamp Stuff MyGrafico shop Design Team. I couldn't believe when I was picked. I had just got my blog going and it was the first time I tried out for anything. Working with Lindsay and the other DT members has really got me hooked on digital stamps. Unlike the other kind, I don't think I will ever run out of space to store them! I still use traditional stamps, but I love the digis.

Okay, don't laugh, but I am also an avid Jazzerciser. I try to get to class at least 3 times a week. I have done it for years and was actually still going to class when I was 8 months pregnant. (I finally had to take a break because my shoes didn't fit any more and it was too hard getting them tied anyhow. I jumped right back into as soon as I could.)

I also love reading and usually go through 1-2 books a week (although I have slowed down during the Holidays) and I LOVE listening to music. I love all kinds of music, rock, country, indie, jazz, blues, etc., and almost always have it playing. If you are interested in either, I would love to be your friend on goodreads.com or lastfm.com.

Well, I can't believe I have gone on so much about myself. Thank you for your patience if you read this whole thing. I am looking forward to see all your projects in the future.

Yeah sista's!

Card making with DD

Friday evening my daughter (8-yrs old) wanted to make cards with me. (I think it was a stall tactic to avoid cleaning her room, but I enjoyed the time with her any how.)

She picked "Cherry on Top" from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff Sweet Stuff digital stamp set. She colored using her own pencils, my glitter pens, and used the same paper as I was using. (Details below.) Inside she wrote "Have a very cherry day". If you can, please leave her some comments, she loves reading them.

I made this card using the Mojo Monday (#119) sketch for inspiration. The grumpy cow (isn't she cute?) is from the Rusty Pickle's Digital Delights. I don't know about you, but I have definitely had "those" days...or so my husband tells me. :)

.
This card also qualifies for Crafty Creations challenge #48 - make your new year glitter. Although it doesn't show up really well in the photo, the polka dot paper is glittery and I used a glitter pen on the cow bell, the bow, and the edges of the flower. The ribbon is also shimmery.

It also qualifies for the What's Digital Stamping Group recycling challenge on Yahoo. The buttons were pulled off a card I received quite a while ago. The ribbon is also recycled. (It was still sticky on one end and has some snags which I put under the DP panel.) I am not sure where it came from but it was at the bottom of my ribbon basket. I wanted to used more recycled items but it just did not work out.
.

By the way, come join us in the What's Digital Stamping Group on Yahoo. It is free to join and the members share tips and trade advice (including where to find freebie). Everyone is welcome whether you are experienced with digital stamps or just trying them out for the first time.
.
