Happy Memorial Day…. With Love

I found a little bit of time to craft on Saturday and was inspired by all the wonderful patriotic cards that I saw on the Operation Write Home (OWH) blog hop.   I decided to make a card to put in my box to send to OWH.

This cute teddy bear is from the “Sending you Luv” digi stamp set from Whimsy & Stars Studio.    I decided to keep my card relatively flat and easy to mail so that it would be easier for the OWH recipient to mail it.

2012-05-28 WSS with love WM

I printed this teddy 3 times.  I colored the first one all except for the heart.   On the 2nd one, I cut out the heart (outside the edges of the heart), covered it with washi tape and then trimmed it right outside the lines. I also used my thickest embossing stylist on the back side to give it some dimension.  On the final copy, I colored his paws, cut them out and layered them on the heart.

Thank you to every one to every one who has served our country.   I am thinking of those we have lost and their families today.

Happy Memorial Day!   Thank you for stopping by!

Keep Calm…

I just have a quick card to share with you today.  It is my daughter's fencing coach’s birthday and I wanted to make him card with a fencing image.  Well, let me tell you, that is much easier said than done.   I couldn’t find any digital stamps so I looked for clip art.  I didn’t  really feel inspired by any of the free domain clip art I could find.  I finally settled on using a free SVG file that I found.

2012-05-26 Fencing card WM

I had a really hard time putting this card together and I’m not really satisfied, but I’m out of time so I had to go with it.    IRL the button more closely matches the color of the polka dot paper.    There is a simply “Happy Birthday” message on the inside.

When I first showed the card to my hubby, he said, that fencer had terrible form.  True, but I have to work with what was available.     Here is a look at a proper fencing lunge.

Thanks for stopping by!  I have to finish messing around on-line and get my card in the envelope.  Have a great weekend!

Coffee Gift Card Holder

This week I made a gift card holder to give a Starbucks GC to a friend.  I used Coffee Girl by Whimsy & Stars Studio and the Papertrey gift card die.

2012-05-22 WSS Coffee WM

I love the big coffee cup she is holding.  The last few mornings I could have used a coffee cup that big.  The problem is that I don’t drink plain coffee.  I love CafĂ© Mocha’s.   I wonder how many Weight Watchers points a mocha that size would be?   I would probably have to live on my treadmill for the rest of the week…

Did you notice her red hair?    I think I mentioned before that I seem to usually color hair blonde.    I decided to step outside my comfort zone and give a red head a try.    The one you see here is attempt number seven.  Good thing I finally got one that was acceptable because I was running out of crafting time.

Thank you to every one that has sent get well wishes to my dog, Summer.   She still isn’t fully recovered by she is doing much better.  She is still having issues with her balance but she is not falling all over the place any more.

I hope you have a great week!  Thank you for stopping by!

Rosie is so pretty!  I had to use the sentiment that came in the paper pad I used.   It says “True beauty lies within.  I know that yours will shine so brilliant it will be blinding.”    I just love it!

Here is a look at Rosie before I started coloring and paper piecing.

Thank you to every one that sent well wishes to my dog, Summer.   She is still having issues with her balance but she seems in good spirits.  She still wants to go off to exploring scents in the yard and be the center of attention even though she is dizzy, nauseous, looses her balance easily and falls down a lot.    We have our fingers that this all passes soon and she will be back to her usual self.

Have a great day!  Thank you for stopping by!

I had a upsetting episode with my dog, Summer, on Friday.   Very suddenly, she started falling down,  walked almost like she was drunk, and was panting and drooling heavily.   Since she’s almost 14 years old, I freaked out and thought she had a stroke or something.   I called the vet and brought her right in.    After about 2 hours and several tests they diagnosed her with idiopathic peripheral vestibular disease.   In a nut shell, my poor dog has a horrible case of vertigo that may last a couple days or several weeks.  All we can do it try to make her comfortable, give her some anti-nausea meds and hope that it passes quickly.

Here is a picture of Summer from a couple of months ago.    Doesn’t she look happy wearing her sombrero?  (Not!)  I like to call this her Desperado look.     (You might recognize this hat from here.)  Let’s hope she is feeling better soon.

That’s it for this week.   I hope you have a fabulous weekend!  Happy Mother’s Day!

CASE’ing Myself

A couple of weeks ago I was showing off my Zutter Bind It All to my mother in-law and mentioned that I used it to make a password book for my daughter.   Since she seemed to like that idea, I decided to make a password book/keeper to give to her for Mother’s Day.

When I sat down to make the book, I was really stuck on how to design the cover.   I decided to CASE my own project and set to work.

2012-05-09 Password book 1

I have to admit that designing the pages and getting them formatted to print properly was the hardest part.   I had to mess around in Word quite a bit before I got it to work.   I did notice that several sites offered pre-designed templates for a password book, but they were all 8-1/2 X 11 and I wanted a smaller book.

2012-05-09 Password book 2

I was able to use some recycled items in making this book too.  Both covers were cut from cereal boxes and then covered with paper.  On the cover, I went to my old stand-by for some texture and die cut some shapes from a Starbucks coffee sleeve.  I was also happy to use some paper, my favorite from Close To My Heart, that I have been hording for ages.

Thank you for stopping by!   Have a great day!

Feel Better…

Hello!  Happy Tuesday!    Did you know it is National Nurses Week?   To be honest, neither did I until I did a quick Google search.    But luckily, I made a card with this cute little nurse image from Whimsy & Stars Studio.     Timing is everything!

0212-05-08 Wss Nurse WM

Although I made a Get Well card, wouldn’t she work great to make a card for your favorite nurse?

Did you notice that I tried my hand at a hair color other than blonde?   I don’t know why this is so hard for me.  Maybe because I’m blonde?   To be honest, she was blonde first but her hair seemed to blend with the Band Aid too much.  So this one is take two.

Stuff to Share

I was so excited to find this video on YouTube this week.   I got this song as a free, promotional download ages ago and a video wasn’t available the last time I checked.  It looks like their album was finally released last month and now they have a video.    Yeah! Now I can share it with you.

If you have a song you would like to share, link up your blog post to Marcea’s blog.  She is our Hostess with the Mostess each week for Music Saves My Soul.

I read Jenny Lawson’s book, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: (A Mostly True Memoir).    Jenny may be better know as The Bloggess.  I started following her blog with this post.   I have to admit I laughed until I cried (in a good way).    So when her book finally came out, I couldn’t wait to get my paws on it.  I literally read it in day.    If you like Jenny’s blog, you will love the book.  (The reverse is also true, if you find her offensive, stay way from her book!)

I made this, Pioneer Woman’s Chicken Florentine Pasta.    As Ree said, “It absolutely completed me.”   It was wonderful with some of my favorite things – pasta, chicken, pasta, cheese, pasta….    You can go to the recipe by clicking on the picture.

My hubby shared this video with me this week.   More true confessions, I needed a Kleenex by the end.  Drat those hormones!  Any how, I thought I would share it with you.   (Funny thing is my husband does most of work when it comes to my daughter’s fencing and it still made me weepy. )

This is what P&G says about the video -

Being a mom is the hardest job in the world. But it's also the best.

This Procter & Gamble commercial honors everything that all moms do to help their children succeed by showcasing the amazing moms behind Olympic athletes at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The hardest job in the world is truly the best job in the world.

Enjoy!

I have one more thing to share with you today.   (Also not crafting related – sorry!)   I found this cool video on Pinterest this week.    The slow motion video really shows the beauty and athleticism of fencing.   (The producer of the video says “Behind the bullet, the tip of a fencing blade is the second fastest-moving object in Olympic sports.”  Wow!)  My daughter fences with a foil and these are epee but it’s close enough.   If you really want to know the difference, you can find an infographic here.

Thanks for sticking with me through all this.   I hope you have a fabulous week end!

Don’t forget to sign up for your chance to win my paper give way and/or a $6 GC to the Whimsy & Stamps Studio shop.    Click on each picture below to be taken to the give away.

B is for …

I’m so excited to be asked to be a Top Chef designer for the current Catered Crop challenge.    If you haven’t checked out the Catered Crop, head on over there.  The Catered Crop is not your usual challenge.  Linda provides a theme and a whole bunch of inspiring photos to get you going.  From there it is all up to you and your creativity.

The current challenge is all about the letter “B”.     Check out this inspiration Linda put together to get your mojo working.

I decided to use this opportunity to try something a little different.  I actually made this card with out using any stamps!  (Digi or rubber).   In the end I ended up adding a sentiment using a stamp, but still that’s pretty good.

“B”  is for Butterflies, Birthdays, Buttons, Bows.    Maybe I could throw Blue and Brown in there too…
