Pumpkin Spice - X’s and O’s

Hello!  Today is my day to post on the Pumpkin Spice blog.  This week’s challenge is to use X’s and O’s in your creations.   Denine further challenged the DT to see what we could make with the focus on designer paper and only use stamps for sentiments.   This idea popped into my head immediately.    (Gosh, I love when that happens!)

2013-02-27 PSS X O WM

On the back side of my top layer, I measured and marked where I wanted the die cuts.   Although I used metal dies, you could do the same thing with your die cutting machine.  The pieces of designer paper are adhered to the back side of the white piece so it shows through the negative spaces.    I think there are so many possibilities to this design.  You could use other words or shapes to fit any occasion.    I finished off my card with stitching because, well, I almost always use stitching.  I couldn’t resist adding some coordinating bakers twine.

The sentiment was added by creating my own, custom rub-on.  You can find a tutorial here.

I hope you will join our X’s & O’s challenge.   You can find all the challenge details and link up your project here.

Thank you for stopping by!

Catching Up

I was looking through my craft photos and realized that I had not posted this card yet.  I made this for my brother’s birthday.   I can’t believe I forgot to post it because I like the way it turned out.

2013-02-26 Bills Bday card WM

I tried to keep it relatively CAS and even used some of my washi tape.   The paint was left over outdoor paint.  I poured some in a Dixie cup, diluted it with water, and flicked it onto the paper.

I have lots of other stuff going on.  One of the most exciting things is that I have a new job which I will start next Monday.   Woo hoo!  I’m very excited to get started.

I have a few pictures of my daughter fencing that I thought I would share.  These were all taken by my hubby’s iPhone over the last few weeks.   I didn’t do any photo editing.

I recently started taking an adult fencing class so that I can better understand the sport.  I really enjoy the class.  The other students are really fun.  I’m not very good but I have a blast.  I have to admit it is probably the only 90 minutes of the week where I am not thinking of my “To do” lists.   I have to focus solely on what is going on when fencing or I walk away with even more bruises.

Well that’s all for me today!  Thank you for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Great Impressions Stamps–This Is How I Roll

Happy Monday!  Today I have another card created using one of the kitchen themed stamps from Great Impressions Stamps.   This fun stamp is “I Roll” (E768).

2013-02-25 GI I Roll WM

To continue with the homey feel from the stamp, I used some October Afternoon papers, twine, a doily and pearls.  All these things make me think of Grandma’s kitchen.   I can almost smell the cookies or pie that she is baking.

Although this is all so homey and cozy, I have to admit that I had the  song from LMFAO with these lyrics running through my head the entire time I was crafting.    Everybody sing it with me, “This is how I roll…”

Whimsy & Stars Studio - Spring Hat Bunny

Hello!  Happy Tuesday!  Today I have a card to share with you made using Spring Hat Bunny (digital stamp) from Whimsy & Stars Studio

2013-02-18 WSS Spring Hat Bunny WM

I tried a new (for me) technique although it is hard to see it in the photo.  I wet a scrap of burlap with Copic colorless blender and pressed it to the bunny’s hat to add some texture.    At this time, I didn’t put a sentiment on the card because I usually only need a couple of Easter cards.  I left it blank so I can use this for Easter or another occasion.

Thank you for stopping by today!  Have a great day!

Supplies:

  • Stamps:  Spring Hat Bunny (digital stamp) from Whimsy & Stars Studio
  • Papers:  Neenah Classic Crest solar white CS, Papertrey kraft CS, Bazzill Basics blue CS, October Afternoon Sidewalks paper pad
  • Tools:  Sewing machine, Stampin’Up edge punch, Big Shot, Papertrey Layerz Mat Stack #1, Copic markers

Great Impressions Stamps–Bunny Backs

Hello!  Happy Monday!  Today is my day to post on the Great Impressions Stamps blog.   For my project, I decided to make something for spring.   I’m not sure if it is wishful thinking or not, but I hope that it is on it’s way.  Let’s all hope that Punxsutawney Phil is accurate in his forecast this year.

Anyhow, these sweet little bunnies made me think of spring and warmer weather.  Aren’t they cute?

I also masked off part of the image and stamped one of the bunnies on the inside of my card along with a sentiment from Great Impressions Stamps.

Pumpkin Spice - Birthday Wishes

While scrolling through the Pumpkin Spice shop, I noticed the great prices on the Christmas/Winter themed paper pads.    The fun colors and patterns on so many of the pages could be used for just about anything.   So I pulled out the “12 Days of Christmas” paper pad from My Mind’s Eye and set to work trying to make some cards.

2013-02-15 PSS Birthday Wishes WM

Since I never have enough birthday cards on hand, I thought that was what I would try first.  I started by punching out butterflies from several of the many patterns in the pad.    From there, I moved them around my card until I had an arrangement that I liked, added some stitching and stickers, and, “Ta Da!”, a birthday card!

Since I also need a congratulations card for a friend , I thought I would see what I could make with the same paper pad.   I really love how this card turned out.

2013-02-15 PSS Happy 4 U WM

(In real life, the glitter on the “U” is more similar to the aqua color in the paper.)

So what do you think?   You can make some fabulous, non-holiday cards using holiday themed papers.   In fact, you can purchase the 6x6 paper pad I used, My Mind’s Eye “12 Days of Christmas”, for only $3.35 at Pumpkin Spice.     Also check out My Mind’s Eye “Winter Wonderland”, which is also only $3.35.    I have it sitting on my desk right now because I love all the cute striped and polka dot papers.

While you are there, check out all the Christmas themed items HERE and the Winter themed items HERE.  If you are already starting on your Christmas cards for 2013, you can pick up some stickers, chipboard and other items that coordinate with the papers so you can make some easy and cute cards.

Deer Valentine

I have one last Valentine’s day card to share with you for this year.    I thought I was done but then I saw this image from Rebecca Parker of Wings & Willows and I knew I had to have him.  This fabulous image is Dear Valentine.   I decided to use him to create (another) Valentine’s day card for my hubby.

2013-02-14 Be My Deer WM

I did not have gray cardstock on hand so I cut the mats out of white CS and used my Copic markers to color the edges so it looked like the correct color.   I created my own, custom rub on to add the text to the journal tab.  If you are interesting in finding out more about this technique, you can find my tutorial here.

Stop by Rebecca’s shop, Wings & Willows, on Etsy to see all her fabulous digital stamps.   While you are there, use the promo code “shestamps15” to receive 15% off any order through the end of February.   You might want to stop by Rebecca’s blog and become a follower so you can stay up to date on her newest images and are aware of any freebies.

Pumpkin Spice–Last Minute Valentine’s Day Cards

Hello!   I have a couple more Valentine’s day cards to share with you.   I kept these really easy so that they would quick to make at the last minute.

2013-02-13 PSS Quick Valentine 2 WM

I didn’t even use Valentine themed papers.  The hearts are from papers from Handmade Tiny Tablet from Lily Bee Designs.    (I think these might be me new favorite papers.  I love the colors!)  This paper pad is only $4.20 at Pumpkin Spice.

2013-02-13 PSS Quick Valentine 1 WM

I love to stitch on almost all my cards but if you need some last minute cards, you could skip the sewing or use faux sewing.  You could even make these as single layer cards.   I’m thinking about using the same design but with different die cut shapes and sentiments to make some more quick cards for my stash.  Hmmm… what about stars and birthday greetings?

Don’t forget to share your Valentine’s day projects with us at the Pumpkin Spice Challenge!
