Whimsy & Stars First Blog Hop

Mother’s Day Rose

On this card I decided to try something new.  I left the image uncolored.  I have seen some other people do this and I wanted to give it a try.   What do you think?  I keep going back and forth between liking it and thinking it looks unfinished.   Right now I like it but by the time you read this I’m sure I’ll have changed my mind a couple of times.I created a custom rub on to add the sentiment to the card.   (I have a tutorial on this technique HERE.)  Since it is Thursday, it means there is a new challenge starting on the Meljen’s Design blog.  Our new challenge to you is to use OVALS on your creation.  Link up your entry at the Meljen’s Designs blog for your chance to win some Meljen’s digis.Today is a bit sad for me. This is my last post as a member of the Meljen’s Designs team.  Sadly, work and family commitments are cutting in to my crafting time so I needed to cut back.   I know I will still be following the Meljen’s Design blog and the blog of the design team members.  While y…

Gigi’s Mother’s Day

First off, let me apologize for the short post.  I worked out this evening and when I was getting out of the shower I realized one of my earrings was missing.  I was really upset because my hubby gave them to me for our first anniversary and I wear them all the time.    So I spent the time that I would usually use to type up my blog post crawling around, looking in the drain, calling all the places I stopped on the way home hoping to find my earring.    The good news is that I eventually found it (Yeah!) but now I don’t have a lot of time to play on my computer.

I made this Mother’s Day card with my Mother In-law in mind.   This sweet image reminds me of my daughter.   I decided to play with some of my paints and distress this card a little.

Here’s another look. An here is a look at the image before I started playing around with it.

Cleaning My Craft Room

Lately, I have seen several bloggers posting some of their excess or no longer wanted supplies on their blogs as give-aways. I really like this idea since it makes some space in my craft room and gives some one else the chance to enjoy some supplies that I no longer use. So in that spirit, I have several paper pads and paper sample packs that I am I would like to share.

All of these have been used, some more than others. All are 6x6. I keep each collection in a separate, quart-sized zip top bag to keep all the bits and pieces together.
Some of the papers included are from:
Bo Bunny – Kitchen Spice sample pack
Echo Park – Life Is Good sample pack
Echo Park – Springtime Collection sample pack
Echo Park – Walk in the Park sample pack
Kaiser Craft – Be Merry Collection pad
Kaiser Craft – Belle Collection pad
My Mind’s Eye – Be-Loved sample pack
My Mind’s Eye – Lost & Found – Market Street pad

One of our favorite exhibits at the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center was about loggerhead turtles.    When I got home and was looking through my Meljen’s Designs digital images, I saw this little sea turtle and had to use him.   He inspired me to create a scrapbook page to help us remember the day.Don’t forget to stop by the Meljen’s Designs blog on Thursday when the new challenge is revealed.  It’s a good one!  Thank you for stopping by!Supplies:Stamps:  Turtle’s Little Star (digital stamp) from Meljen’s DesignsInks:  None Papers:  Bazzill Basics, Papertrey Rustic Cream CS, My Mind’s Eye Quite Contrary Little Boy Blue DP Tools:  Copic markers, Sewing machine Embellishments:  Misc. clip, buttons, twineChallenges:Incy Wincy Designs - Digi`s ONLYPollycraft - SIO - Cute CrittersTammy Scrapin Corner - Anything Goes with a Splash of Green  Paper Sundaes - 3E, C10 - Anything GoesThe Crafty Pad - SIO - Bounty of Buttons (more than 3)Cupcake Inspirations - Photo InspirationCrazy 4 …

Spring Break!

Did you miss me over the past week? During my little blogging break, we headed to Virginia Beach for Spring Break. I thought I would share a few photos of what we were up to.This is the photo from the balcony of our room. The absolute best part was that we could watch the dolphins swimming around every morning. That is a sight that I would never tire of.We spent a day a Colonial Williamsburg. (Liz is dressed in a period costume.) There was so much to see. We spend an entire day there and I feel like we saw only about 1/3 of it. We will definitely head back there if we are in the area again. We also visited the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center. Very fun!Of course we spent some time on the beach. Liz was very disappointed that it was too cold to swim in the ocean when we were there. (It warmed up the day we were leaving.) Liz decided to put her feet in the ocean even though we told her it was cold and she promptly ran back out.And this was the main e…

Happy Easter

Happy Easter! This is the last Easter project that I have to share with you this year. It uses part of the Dancing Egg & Chick image from Whimsy & Stars Studio. You can see the entire image further down in my post. This tag started when I was sadly looking at all the little scraps that were the only remains of my favorite papers from the October Afternoon Sidewalk pad. I decided to stitch them together to make a tag. I actually stitched the scraps of DP to a scrap piece of white CS, which I glued to my tag, so that the back would remain nice. Here is a look at the whole Dancing Egg & Chickie image.Just a quick heads up - next week Mabelle will be giving away a free digital image on the Whimsy & Stars Studio Facebook page. Stop by and “like” her page now so that you don’t miss out!You won’t see me around much this coming week. My daughter is on spring break and I am going to take the week off blogging, try to stay off the computer, and enjoy my time wi…

Music Saves My Soul

My choice this week is a little bit different than usual.    I didn’t pick this video because of the song (which is alright) but because of the actual video.   It was created by cutting the scenes out of over 12,0000 pieces of paper.   How cool is that?  Since this is a paper crafting blog, I thought it was a goo fit. If you would like to share  a song/video, link up your blog post on Marcea’s blog.Thank you for stopping by!

Vintage Easter

I can’t believe Easter is already coming up. This year is already flying past. And I have so many Easter images to still play with! This week I wanted to color this sweet image from Whimsy & Stars Studio. Isn’t she adorable? I don’t remember if I mentioned it before, but when spraying items with glimmer mist I always put some flattened coffee filters in the box under them to catch the overspray. Letting the overspray just coat the box seems like such a waste. The coffee filters always looks so pretty and shimmery and I have big ideas on what I can do with them. (Of course up until now it was all ideas.) So for this card, I broke out my stash of shimmery coffee filters and finally used them. I die cut flowers out of my filters and then sprayed them with my Copic Airbrush system to make them the correct color. Although the photo doesn’t pick it up, IRL the flowers have a beautiful shimmer. See, I knew those coffee filters would come in handy some day. (I also spra…

Welcome to our blog hop to celebrate Meljen’s Designs 2nd anniversary! You should have just hopped over from Ceal’s blog. Remember you have a chance to win a Meljen’s Designs digital image at each stop on the hop along with a grand prize of a bundle of Melissa’s favorite images which will go to one lucky hopper. Can you believe grand opening of the Meljen’s Designs store and the kick off of the Meljen’s Designs first design team took place just two years ago? When we were asked to make a project using our favorite Meljen’s Designs image for the hop, I have to admit I was at a bit of a loss. Melissa has created so many fabulous images over the last couple of years that I cannot pick a single favorite. So, in honor of Meljen’s Designs anniversary or birthday, I decided to use Birthday Cake Mouse. I guess you could say he is my favorite for this week. Besides, what kind of …
