Mother’s Day Rose

On this card I decided to try something new.  I left the image uncolored.  I have seen some other people do this and I wanted to give it a try.   What do you think?  I keep going back and forth between liking it and thinking it looks unfinished.   Right now I like it but by the time you read this I’m sure I’ll have changed my mind a couple of times.

2012-04-26 MJD Rose WM

I created a custom rub on to add the sentiment to the card.   (I have a tutorial on this technique HERE.)

Since it is Thursday, it means there is a new challenge starting on the Meljen’s Design blog.  Our new challenge to you is to use OVALS on your creation.  Link up your entry at the Meljen’s Designs blog for your chance to win some Meljen’s digis.

Today is a bit sad for me. This is my last post as a member of the Meljen’s Designs team.  Sadly, work and family commitments are cutting in to my crafting time so I needed to cut back.   I know I will still be following the Meljen’s Design blog and the blog of the design team members.

While you are here, don’t forget to check out my paper give-away.   You can see the details by clicking the picture below.

Thank you for stopping by!

oh i think this looks so beautiful lovely layering and fab use of colors...the image fits in so well :) i really like the outcome:)

I think this is lovely! I am like you, when I have tried to do the no coloring thing, I just want to reach for my Copics and fill in all those lines. The only time I have been happy with mine is if I stamp the image on something other than white, like you did here. It looks like it was designed that way, not left undone.

Lovely card! I like how you made the three layers of border in the bottom of the card. And the mild colours.

I love it Cheryl! Has a vintage feel to it. I really like your scallops along the bottom too. Thanks for playing in Squigglefly's challenge!

I think your card is gorgeous Cheryl! (as is everything you make) I think I would find myself wanting to color that flower though. I'm one of those people who want "just a little more" when I'm coloring an image & before I know it there is NO uncolored space! This card has challenged me to try something new!!

This is a gorgeous creation. Love the kind of vintage feel to it and thanks for the rub on tutorial.

I love this! Leaving the rose uncoloured is such a unique idea and works very well with this card.

I've also seen it done on kids card, with a "cute" image. There were crayons included as well so the kids could fill in the picture :)

Cheryl, Thank you for stopping my Doodle Pieces blog and for the lovely comment you left. I think not adding color to your rose makes more of a statement of it's own. I especially like the paper you printed in on, subtle but very effective. Thank you also for the rub-on tutorial. I had a quick look and will look at it a bit more closely when I get the chance.

PS. I saw your entry on Make it Monday too, isn't this fun. My number is 135

Gorgeous! I think your card is absolutely gorgeous, Cheryl! I mean just look at all those fabby layers! Love the text paper scallops and love the neutral color palette with the pop of pink. And I think what you did with the image is just out of this world!
I have so enjoyed all your Meljen's design projects. You've done a truly amazing job and inspired us all with your beautiful work!

Your card looks just perfect with the soft colours, layers and uncoloured digi. I know what you mean, though, about being hesitant to leave the image uncoloured. I think it works well here because you didn't print it on plain white or cream paper.
Still haven't tried the homemade rub-on technique but will do so one of these days...
