Sentimental Sundays–Anything But A Card

It’s Sunday so it is time for a new Sentimental Sundays challenge. This week we are challenging you to make anything you like, except a card. Don’t forget to include a sentiment.

Since I have been trying new things this week, I decided to try stamping on tile. I am so hooked on digital stamps that I rarely break out my rubber or acrylic stamps any more except for the occasional sentiment. So this week, I used real, actual stamps along with my sadly neglected StazOn ink pads to try stamping on tile.

(I apologize for the shadows in the picture. I had a really hard time trying to get a decent picture.)

I don’t think I like the way they turned out much. I want to change something but I’m just not sure what. My DH says he really likes them (see why I love him?) I am happy I tried something new and tried to push my way out of my comfortable little creative space a little bit.

I hope you will join us at the Sentimental Sundays blog and show us your anything but a card project (with a sentiment). I saw some sneak peeks of the projects some of the other DT members created and they are gorgeous. We are also introducing our new DT. I am so excited to meet all these talented ladies. Stop by the Sentimental Sundays blog to meet them. A few have projects today, but they don’t “officially” start until next week, so be sure to come back!

**edited to add** This tip came up in some emails between SS DT members and I thought I would pass it on. As many people know, Blogger has been a bit naughty lately. Now that it is mostly done eating our posts, it won’t let us leave bloggy love, in the form of comments, for other bloggers. The tip is that when you log in, uncheck the box that says “Stay Logged In”. I tried it and haven’t had any problems leaving comments since then. I hope this helps.

Don’t forget the OWH blog hop is still going on. Feel free to enter my candy drawing for the hop.

Thank you for stopping by! Enjoy your week end!

Supplies:

  • Stamps: Treasure Life from Close To My Heart, Ornate Textured Background from Stampabilities
  • Papers & CS: None
  • Inks: StazOn Timber Brown, Olive & Black
  • Tools: Oven (baked to make sure ink was set)
  • Embellishments: Felt pads for bottom

OWH Blog Hop

I can’t believe it is already Memorial day and time for the OWH hop. I found out about OWH about a year ago when I stumbled onto a blog hop similar to this one. I loved what they were/are doing for our troops and had to join in. Since then, I have sent a couple of boxes of cards and joined in every blog hop that I could to help raise awareness. Well, enough of the jabber, I will get on to my projects. I know there are a lot of stops on the hop and you don’t want to miss any of them. Don’t forget that I am offering blog candy for the hop. You can find all the details in the post following this one or by clicking HERE.

I have 2 cards to share with you today. I tried something a bit out of my style on both. No digi stamps where used on either card! That is really unusual for me.

For the first card, I was lacking mojo and was poking around on Pinterest trying to find some inspiration. I loved this card by the very talented Laurie Wilson and decided to CASE it and give it a bit of my own spin.

After completing my CASE of Laurie’s card, I felt my mojo coming back and made this card. It is a bit different my usual style, but I like the results.

Your next stop on the hop is Shelly(http://shellysangelheart.blogspot.com/) .

Thank you for hopping by today. If you get lost along the way, you can always find the complete blog hop list by clicking the Blog Hop button at the top of my post. Don’t forget to scroll down or click HERE to enter in my blog candy give away.

    OWH Blog Hop–BLOG CANDY post

To keep the hop running smoothly, we were asked to post any blog candy offerings in a separate post. If you are looking for my OWH blog hop post, you can find it here.

For the hop, I am offering on random hopper a new set of Martha Stewart Flourish clear stamps.

To qualify for the random drawing, please leave a comment on my OWH blog hop post. Come back to this post and enter your name in the linky tool below. I think I have it set where you do not need to enter your blog (if you do not have one). If it requires one, and you do not have your own blog, feel free to use my blog address.

You do not need to become a follower to enter my drawing, although I would love it if you did. Smile

The linky tool will close at noon, Tuesday, May 31st, and I will announce the winner on my blog at that time. The winner will have 1 week to contact me with their mailing info before I do a redraw.

Thank you for hopping along with us. I hope you have a fabulous Memorial Day week end.

    Music Saves My Soul

This week I’m sharing a song by the Decemberists.   I love this song but am not too wild about the video.

If you would like to play along with us this week and share a song, link up your pick on Marcea’s blog.

Happy Memorial Day to my US friends!   Please stop back later today for my OWH blog hop post and a chance at some blog candy.     Have a great week end!

    Meljen’s Designs–Best Dad

Hello! Thursday has once again rolled around and it is time for the new Meljen’s Designs challenge and new digi release. Our new challenge this week is “Kraft plus ONE color” (the image maybe colored).

I made a Father’s Day card using one of the digital images being released today, Papa Bear. I think I might have bent the rules of the challenge because my DP has white on it, which is another color. But, you know me, I’m always the rebel…

Also being the rebel (insert evil laugh here), I cropped out one of the little bears from the image. Since my husband and I only have one child, I wanted the image to reflect that. (You can see the sneak peek of the “as is” Papa Bear image and the other new releases below.) Melissa did a great job designing this image. The one “child” bear can be merged and multiplied to reflect different family sizes. Isn’t that cool? Check out this sample she did.

Here is a peek at all the new images being release by Meljen’s Designs on Whimsy Stamps today.

Before I wrap up my post, I wanted to let you know that Whimsy Stamps will be holding a blog hop on June 1 to show off the new digital images for the month of June. There are new images from Meljen’s Designs, Crissy Armstrong, Moon Cookie Gallery, and a new digital artist. Stop by the Whimsy Inspiration blog on June 1st to get the blog hop line up.

    Thank you for stopping by!

    Supplies:

    • Stamps: Papa Bear by Meljen’s Designs on Whimsy Stamps
    • Inks: Distress Inks Tea Dye and Antique Linen
    • Papers & CS: Papertrey kraft CS, Neenah Solar Crest white CS, My Mind’s Eye Complete Boy DP pad, My Mind’s Eye Breaking Free Blue Texture
    • Tools: Sewing Machine, Big Shot, Papertrey Ric Rac die, Fiskars edge punch, Copic markers
    • Embellishments: Misc buttons & hemp, Starbucks coffee sleeve, Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type stickers, Mrs. Grossman’s Classic Alphabet stickers, garnet Spica pen

    Music Saves My Soul

I couldn’t follow the rules and pick just one song this week.  So, I picked 2 songs from Girl In A Coma off their “Adventures in Coverland” album.  They do some awesome covers.

I hope you will play along with us by linking up a song on Marcea’s blog.    Have a great week end!

    Meljen’s Designs–Sketch Challenge

Happy Thursday! I hope your week is going well. I can’t believe it is already mid-May. I hope some warm, sunny weather heads our way soon.

I lost my creative mojo over the week end and really struggled to make the few cards that I needed to complete. I (re)discovered a huge time sink, Pinterest, and it really got my mojo going again. There are so many amazing things to look at, be inspired by, or laugh at. I started by putting together some collections of card sketches and crafting projects that I love. It just grew on its own from there. Feel free to look me up and check out some of the sketches and things that I pinned if your mojo needs a boost.

This week the Meljen’s Designs team is challenging you to use a sketch created by our talented teammate Dianna. This is such a great, versatile sketch. I hope you will join us and link up your creation inspired by this sketch on the Meljen’s Designs blog.

I decided to make another boyish card for my stash (or maybe OWH). I never used the Playful Dinosaur image before and was happy to get the chance to print & color him. I also broke out some burlap that I had stashed away. I don’t know why I haven’t been using it. I think I’ve been “saving” it for some big, wonderful idea that hasn’t surfaced yet. I am glad I used it because I really like the way it looks even as a simple mat.

Just like every Thursday, Melissa has some cute new digital images that she is releasing at Whimsy Stamps. Here is a looksee.

Since she loves to spoil us on occasion, she also released a few extra, summer inspired images earlier this week. These are also available at Whimsy Stamps.

As if that isn’t enough, she also released 4 RUBBER stamps at Whimsy Stamps on Wednesday. Whimsy is having a blog hop to celebrate all the new rubber stamps and dies released in May. If you are interested in joining the hop, you can find the details HERE.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful day!

    Sentimental Sundays–Handmade Flowers

It’s Sunday so we have a new Sentimental Sundays challenge. This week, our challenge for you is to make handmade flowers to use on your creation. Don’t forget your sentiment!

There are so many wonderful tutorial on how to make your own flowers that I had a hard time deciding what to do. In the end I used the flower tutorial I found HERE to make my flowers. (If you are looking for some tutorials on making your own flowers, I keep links to some of my favorites on my Useful Information page. Feel free to check it out for ideas if you want.)

I printed a digital sentiment from Raindrop Echo Designs on a journal card and trimmed it to fit my card. I was happy to make a card where the doilies I have had sitting in my craft area for ages “fit”.

I was inspired by the Viva la Verve sketch for the first week of May. (You can find it here) I really liked this sketch and think I will be turning back to it again in the future.

Last week, to celebrate the first anniversary of Sentimental Sundays, we had a mini blog hop. Each DT member that participated was giving away a digital sentiment of the winner’s choice from Raindrop Echo Designs. The winner from my blog is Jennipher Lowery! Congratulations Jennipher! Please email us at sentimentalsundays@raindropecho.com with your choice of digital sentiment sent from Raindrop Echo Designs. Pleas put “Blog Hop Winner” in the “subject line”.

Well, that’s all for me today. Thank you for stopping by! Be sure to stop by the Sentimental Sundays blog to download your free sentiment from Ann Vento of Raindrop Echo Designs and see the beautiful handmade flowers from the rest of the DT. I hope you will join in our challenge too!

    Challenges:

    Bugaboo Fan of the Month

A couple of weeks ago I was asked if I would be interested in being the Bugaboo Fan of the month for May. Of course I had to jump on the chance. Bugaboo has such a great variety of images and the DT is so fun and talented. It was fun having my bio in the Bugaboo monthly newsletter. (Pssst…. If you don’t get the newsletter, you might want to sign up HERE. In each letter there are discounts, news tidbits and freebies.) And, I get to participate with the DT in the Catch the Bug challenge. This week’s challenge is “Anything Goes”.

I have needed several “Get Well” cards lately and used the opportunity to use Bugaboo’s Bug Jar – Bugs to make this card. I love the entire Bug Jar line at Bugaboo, but for some reason this one just makes me smile. I think it is the little bug peeking over the top of the jar.

When I started typing up my post, I noticed you can’t see the entire sentiment. The ticket says “Caught A Bug?”. I would take a new photo for my post, but I already mailed the card off. Sorry…

Did you notice the cute yo-yo flower on my card? I have to admit I didn’t make it. I won it in a package of blog candy goodies from my blogging buddy, Anita. I always admire them on her cards and was thinking about actually making some myself when I won some. Yippee!

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you have a fabulous week end! Don’t forget to stop by the Catch the Bug blog and enter the “Anything Goes” challenge.

    Supplies:

    • Stamps: Bug Jar – Bugs from Bugaboo Stamps, Just the Ticket from Papertrey

    Music Saves My Soul

This song has been in heavy rotation on my iPod playlist the last few weeks.  I was going to share it a couple of weeks ago, but couldn’t find a decent video.  Good thing I waited, here is the newly released official video.

If you like this song, Paste Magazine is offering a free download on their website HERE.    I don’t know how long it will be there.

If you would like to play along and share a song that you love, link up over on Marcea’s blog

    Meljen’s Designs–Just Hangin’ Around

It’s Thursday so that means it is time for a new release and a new challenge at the Meljen’s Designs blog. Our challenge this week is to create a business sized (4x9.5) card. I chose not to participate in the challenge this week, so stop by the Meljen’s Designs blog to see the inspiration pieces from some of the other DT members.

Although I didn’t make a business sized card, I couldn’t resist using this new image. I typically don’t care much for possums, but this little guy is cute. I stayed with a standard sized card so that I could slip into my box of cards bound for OWH. (66 cards are on the way – mailed today!)

Here is a look at all the new images this week. They are all available in the Whimsy Stamps store starting today.

I though I would also share a picture of a real possum that loves to stop by to eat my bird seed. This picture was taken in January when we had snow on the ground. (Opposed to April when we still had snow on the ground…) I like Melissa’s “Little Possum” much better than the real deal. What do you think?

Have a great day! Thank you for stopping by.

    Supplies:

    • Stamps: Little Possum by Meljen’s Designs on Whimsy Stamps
    • Inks: None
    • Papers: Papertrey kraft & dark chocolate CS, Neenah Solar Crest white CS, My Mind’s Eye Stella & Rose Hazel paper pad
    • Tools: Sewing machine, Big Shot, My Favorite Things scallop edge die
    • Embellishments: The Twinery Caribbean baker’s twine, misc. button
    • Misc.: Sentiment computer generated

Also, being the first of the month, means it is time for the new digital stamp release and blog hop for Whimsy Stamps. You should have arrived here from Debbie’s blog. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross disaster relief. You can purchase the stamps or find more info on the funds raised to date at the Help For Japan page in the Whimsy Store.
