Sentimental Sundays Color Challenge

It's Sunday again and that means it's time for the Sentimental Sundays challenge. This week we are challenging you with a color challenge (see the color sample further down this email). Don't forget to include a sentiment.

I finally bought a small sewing machine so I can try my hand at actual sewing on a card. (All sewing on my cards up to this point has been faux.) This is my first attempt. It looks a little rough but I thought it was okay on a card for a boy. If you have any tips for sewing on a card, especially on how to keep your thread from snapping, please share it in comments. I need your help! Even with the crazy stitching, I still like the way this turned out. These dinosaurs make me smile.

Here are the colors we are challenging you to use. You do not need to use Stampin' Up product, just use similar colors (like I did).I based my card on the Sweet Stop Sketch #91 but the challenge ended before I could get my card posted.

Thank you for stopping by! Be sure to pop by the Sentimental Sundays blog to see what the rest of the DT created. Downloaded the sentiment freebie from Ann from Raindrop Echo Designs while you are there. Don't forget to enter the challenge. We love looking at your entries.

Supplies:

  • Stamps: Rex & Bronty Know How to Party & free sentiment from Pink Cat Studios
  • Papers & CS: PaperTrey white cs, Georgia Pacific white CS, Stampin' Up Handsome Hunter CS, October Afternoon Campfire & Night Light DP

Hi Cheryl - this is totally fabulous! The expression on those faces really made me smile!!! The stitching is great, and fits in so well with the overall design.

If the thread keeps breaking, it may be the tension which is too tight. When I do zig-zag on cardstock this combination works for me:- Width-3, Tension-4, Length-2. For a larger zig-zag, I increase the Width to 5. (The larger the Width setting, the larger the stitch). If I am doing a straight stitch, I use the same settings as above, apart from the Length which I set at 5.
Hope this helps.
Have a happy Sunday, Sylvia xx

If I had all the time in the world I would most likely spend a substantial amount of it just staring at your work - stunning!!

Hi Cheryl, don't have favourites ... but if I did ... this would be it. Can't stop smiling when I look at it such a cutzie image, love, love, love it. Stitching looks perfect to me.

Same as above for the stitching but when I put the paper on the card I only put the smallest amount of double sided tape in the middle of the paper, just so it doesn't move when stitching (you'd be surprised how many people put their paper on as normal and then try to stitch through the double sided tape as well as the paper) not good for the needle or machine.
Have fun experimenting Cheryl.

How cool! What type of machine did you buy??? I'm looking to buy one. I heard the Janome Sew-mini was good!

Here's a few tutorials I've kept in my favorites until I buy one:

I think the card is a great boy card! The cooky eye's of the dino's go with the little bit of cooky sewing! I'm sure you will master it in NO TIME!!!

Rawr this is Dino-Mite!! I love it! The stitching looks great and that image is so stinkin' cute! I especially like the texture on the little ric-rac accent...looks like little scales. :)

Jinny Newlin said...

This is so, stinkin' cute, Cheryl! And a sewing machine... Yihoo! It sounds as though your tension is too tight. I, usually, have mine set at three. Let us know how it works for you.

Cheryl, this card is too cute! I got a Janome Sew Mini, a while back, and I had never used a sewing machine in my life. Well after watching Gina K - Stamp TV vidoes, I was up and going. I dont use it near as much as I thought I would, but I did pull it out this past week. I found a good tip from Maria at Scraps By M. If you put clear thread on your bobbin, its a lot easier to change out the thread as often as you like. Then you will only need to change your spool of thread on top.
