The Wings of the Butterfly

Hurray! It's Sunday and that means the new challenge is up on the Sentimental Sundays blog. The challenge this week is "Encouragement & Support".

I wanted to use something a little different than "Hang in there" or "Thinking of You" so I decided to use this sentiment from Tlc Creations. It says "May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun and find your shoulder to light on." For some reason, it just strikes a chord inside me and I love it.

I hope you will join us this week and share your cards of support and encourgement on the Sentimental Sundays blog. A random entrant will win 4 digital stamp sentiments of their choosing or a sentiment set from Raindrop Echo Designs Whismy Stamp digital collection. The only rule is that you follow the theme and you must have a sentiment somewhere on your card.

Thank you for looking!

Challenges for this card:

Supplies:
  • Images: Butterflies Word Art by Tlc Creations on Digi Design Resort
  • Papers & CS: My Mind's Eye Bloom & Grow Spring in Bloom, Blue-Green Vines, & Checking out, Georgia Pacific CS, PaperTrey white CS, misc. orange CS

Did Somebody Say "Cake"?

I am so excited to be the guest designer on the Card Patterns challenge blog this week.

I have been wanting to use this cute Cocoa the Mouse image from Sweet 'n Sassy for some time and finally printed him out and colored him especially for this sketch.

Isn't he cute? I think he is peeking out looking for a piece of cake. Or maybe it's just that I want a piece of cake.... Hmmm... Cake for breakfast, now that's an idea.
.
Here is a look at this week's sketch. Be sure to link up your creation on the Card Patterns blog.

Thank you for looking! Have a terrific week end!

A Bookmark For My Daughter

I am so happy that my daughter loves to read. She is going through books this summer like crazy. Her latest craze is the "Little House on the Prairie" books.

A few months ago, she was looking over my shoulder when I was blurfing (blog surfing) and saw that some one had made her daughter a book mark. She has been asking me for one ever since. Luckily, the Meljen's Designs challenge this week is to make a book mark or tag. I had to take this opportunity to make her a personalized book mark.

Here is a look at the clip I used on the back. I bought a package book mark clips a while ago with the intent of using them to make her a book mark but had not had the time to use them. (They are from Jewelry Shoppe Findings purchased from Hobby Lobby for $1.99 for 2.)

Here is a close up of the cute little sunflower from Meljen's that I paper pieced. It was sprayed with Glimmer Mist even though it does not show up in the photo.

Here is a peek at the entire new release. Remember you can buy individually or as a set.

I hope you will join in the Meljen's Designs Challenge to create a book mark or tag. Remember you do not need to you a Meljen's image to participate. Stop by the challenge blog to see the creations from the other DT members.

Edit: Also, Meljen's Designs is moving to Whimsy Stamps. You will be able to purchase your Meljen's images HERE. All new images will be at Whimsy and Melissa is busy moving all the old ones over there too. Older images will still be in the old shop during the transition.

Thank you for looking!

Challenges for this card:

  • Images: Sunny Day Flower from Meljen's Designs
  • Papers & CS: PaperTrey Inc kraft, SU Bashful Blue & Delicate Dots DP
  • Inks: None
  • Tools: Cricut & George cartridge, Big Shot, Spellbinders Nestabilities, Xyron
  • Embellishments: Crystal Stickles, Tattered Angles Glimmer Mist in pearl, cardboard (from pizza box between layers to make stronger), Copics & Prismacolor markers (highlighting on flower), misc. beads, rings, thread, book clip

Berry Sweet

I don't know about you, but I just love fresh strawberries. They are one of my favorite signs of summer.

I made this card using the new Strawberries & Watermelon digital stamp set from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff. These look so yummy I just want to wash them off and dig in. I paired them up with a doily I have had sitting out for a while and some lace.

Here is a look at the dimension on the card. I used pop dots between the layers.

Here is a look at the complete set. You can get the entire set of 7 images for just $5, which I think is a bargain. You will definitely be seeing more projects from me using these. Lindsay has several new sets in the store so you might want to go check it out.

Please stop by the rest of the DT to see the eye candy they created for you this week. As always, Lindsay will have a freebie on her blog.

Sentimental Sundays - All About You

Hello my friends! I am sorry I don't have any eye candy for you today. Between migraines, storms, a police search for an armed fugitive in the area, loss of power, loss of A/C, child freaking out about the storms, A/C, and said fugitive and just life in general this crazy week I wasn't able to get my project done. Thankfully the migraine has passed, we have power and the 2nd repairman got the A/C going again. (The police are still looking for the fugitive but think he left the area.)

This week for the Sentimental Sunday's Challenge, Ann is asking us to use our favorite sentiment. Hmmm.... How about something to the effect "Life is too short to skip the chocolate"? It is all about the chocolate, isn't it? Or I know, how about "Calgon take me away!". It may not be a proper card sentiment, but is seems appropriate this week. Anyhow, I saw sneak peeks of some of the projects from the rest of the DT and you don't want to miss them. So go over to the Sentimental Sunday's blog, down load the free sentiment set from Ann, and check out the fabulous projects from the rest of the DT. While you are there, why don't you post a card or project using your favorite sentiment for your chance to win some of Ann's wonderful sentiment sets? All the details are on the challenge site.

I had some other fun stuff happen this week. I won the sketch challenge on the Annabelle Stamps blog with the card I made for my Dad for Father's Day. I won a free digi from Fresh Brewed Designs for posting their new challenge blog button. Check out the blog HERE and the store HERE. (I picked Desert Fiesta because it was so stinkin' adorable!) And best of all I received a RAK from my blogging buddy Karin which totally made my day on Friday. (And she included some chocolate. Does she know me or what?)
.
Lastly, I have been sadly remiss in posting this award from another blogging buddy, Leanne.

The rules for this award are to pass it on to 10 awesome bloggers and tell where you would like to be in 10 years. In 10 years, I would like to see my daughter in college. I would love it if both hubby and I were retired (early retirement) but if that doesn't work I would like to be able to reduce my work hours to part time so I could spend more time crafting and more time with friends. I might even get off my duff and be teaching business classes at one of the local colleges or technical schools. As for passing this on to 10 awesome bloggers, I have met so many wonderful, inspiring women since I entered the blogging world last October that I am having a hard time choosing. I would love to pass it on to each and every one of you. (Does that sound like a cop out? Sorry... My blogging life is my place to break the rules.) If you would like this award, please post on your blog and follow the rules. (Do as I say, not as I do.)

Wow - what a long post, especially since I did not have a project. I hope you all have a wonderful day today. I am looking forward to seeing your entry in the Sentimental Sundays challenge with your favorite sentiment or quote.

For A Special Dad

Whew! I got the Father's Day for my husband done in the nick of time.

I think I might have went a little nuts on the distressing but my husband always says he likes when I "rough up the edges so everything isn't all perfect." This card should be perfect for him.

I wanted to share one of my favorite pictures of my husband taken last year at our Halloween party / bonfire.

Thank you for looking!

For The Love Birds - Happy Anniversary

The new challenge on the Meljen's Designs challenge blog is Fiber, Ribbons or Lace. I used the opportunity to make an anniversary card for my sister & brother-in law.

I colored my ribbon using Copics and then threaded through the lace. I love that look. The kraft layers were distressed to add some texture.

My friend Joy found the sheet music for me at a antique/fleet market. She picked up several different packs and I could not wait to use it.

I hope you will join in the Meljen's Designs Fiber, Ribbon & Lace challenge for your opportunity to win some Meljen's Designs images.

Stop by the blog on Monday for your freebie from Melissa. You can also find a link in this post to a zip file to download all the past freebies.

HB2U!

I just LOVE the new On The Line digital stamp set from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff. As soon as I saw it I had a zillion ideas. My only disappointment is that I only had time to make 1 card this week. (So that means you will be seeing more of this set in the future!)

I thought I would start out using the banners/pennants that are so popular lately.

This is was a fun and easy card to make for a man's birthday. I don't have a specific recipient in mind but I need a bunch of masculine birthday cards in the near future.

I paper pieced/layered the banners using some scrap DP. This paper from October Afternoon is too cute to toss any scraps so I keep them all just in case I can use them for something fun like this. The clouds are sponged on the blue using white ink. The bottom layer is distressed to add a little texture.

Here is a look at the complete set of 19 images. (They're just $6!)

Please stop by the rest of the DT to see what they created this week and Lindsay will have her weekly freebie posted on her blog.

It's Summertime with Sentimental Sundays

It's summertime and the living is easy..... I love that song. It brings back some fond memories.

The challenge this week on the Sentimental Sundays blog is "Summertime". And to me, one of the hallmarks of summer is a pitcher of fresh squeezed lemonade.

I made this card both for the challenge and for a friend who is going through a bit of a rough patch. The pitcher is covered with a couple of coats of UTEE. The lemon is coated with just one coat in IRL looks a little dimply like a real lemon.

If you like this pitcher of lemonade and the lemon, you can get them from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps. 100% of the proceeds from the sales of this digital stamp set go to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). ALSF is committed to finding a cure for all children with cancer. Click HERE to purchase.

The sentiment comes from the Doodle Pantry's Lemon Ants digital stamp set. This set is currently free!

Please join us in the Sentimental Sunday's "Summertime" challenge. Ann will have a new word art freebie posted this week.

Thank you for looking! Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Challenges for this card:

Sweet Sparkle, Glitter, Bling

This week's Meljen's Designs challenge is Sparkle, Glitter & Bling. Although I use a lot of gemstones, I typically do not use much glitter so I challenged myself to use glitter on my card.

I wanted to find a way to use glitter where it would not get all over. I cut "Sweet" out of Stampin' Up Real Red CS using my Cricut and added multiple layers of UTEE. On the 2nd to last layer, while the UTEE was still melted, I poured red glitter on it. I sealed with an additional coat of UTEE so that the glitter would not come off. I love the way it turned out. It looks great in real life (better than the picture). To add a little extra sparkle, I used Stickles on the image and the scalloped mat.

I hope you will join us for our Sparkle, Glitter & Bling challenge for your chance to win some Meljen's Designs images. Visit the blog to see more inspiration from the Design Team.

Do you want more opportunities to win Meljen's Designs images? Check out all the challenges Melissa is sponsoring on the Meljen's Designs Challenge blog. You can also pick up the freebie from Monday there.

Father's Day Card with Sentimental Sundays

Our new challenge on the Sentimental Sunday's blog is "New or Neglected Stash". I have a little bit of both on this card that I made for my dad for Father's Day.

The paper is from my "new stash". I bought most of it from Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago. The "Father" stamp is from my "neglected stash". Believe it or not, it is an actual stamp not a digi. Shocking isn't it? I bought this stamp a couple of years ago for Father's Day but then never used it. I also used a sadly neglected background stamp on the heart to give it a little texture.

Since the sentiment is a little hard to read in the photo, I will save your eyes and tell you what it says. "A father is someone who listens with his heart, speaks with his hugs, and teaches not by words but by example."

To make the white frame around the main panel, I used painters tape around the edges, sponged with the blue ink, and then removed the tape. (I'll let you in on a secret.....painters tape is one of my favorite items in my tool bag. I use it to make sure thick stuff doesn't slide on my Cricut mat, to hold my nesties in place, making frames, all kinds of stuff.)

Please stop by the Sentimental Sunday's blog to download your free sentiment and see the inspiration pieces by the rest of the DT. I hope you will join our "New or Neglected Stash" challenge.

Before I go, I'll share a picture of my dad with you. He used to be a line-man for the power company before he retired. (I used to think "Wichita Lineman" was about him when I was really little. I would also watch the "Electric Company" every day waiting to see him and never did. Hmmm...some people might think I wasn't too smart....) Anyhow, my brother took this photo last summer. He is about 12 feet in the air. Not bad for 67.

Thank you for looking!

Honey, It's an Oldie

I found out that this card that I submitted months ago for OWH Stars & Stamps sketch 88 is going to be posted on their blog on Sunday.

This was one of the first images I colored with my alcohol markers when I got them. I was trying to keep the card relatively flat for easy mailing.

In the picture it looks like there is a little smudge above the heart but IRL there is nothing there. I'm not sure why it is doing that in the photo.

If you have a chance check out the OWH Stars & Stamps blog. If you would like to help support Operation Write Home with either blank, hand made cards or letters of support to our troops, you can get more information HERE.

Thank you for looking

You're So Tweet

I have had this image printed and sitting on my desk for a few weeks. I loved it the second I saw it but I just haven't had time to sit down and color it. So finally, over the long holiday week end, I was able to pull it out and make a card with it.

Aren't these birds cute? Originally the sentiment was supposed to say "Home Tweet Home" so I could sent it to my aunt and uncle who just bought a new home. Well, I don't have a craft area. So right when I was in the middle of "crafting" I had to clean off an spot on the kitchen table so I could give my daughter lunch. When I went back to my card, I could not find the sentiment. I tore everything apart looking for it but could not find it. My hubby even looked in the garbage for me. (Isn't he sweet? I gave him a kiss for that....after he washed his hands....and showered in Lysol....) I still couldn't find it so I went with "You're So Tweet!". Of couse when I was cleaning up when I finished the card, I found the sentiment stamp in my button container. Grrrrr... At least it wasn't lost for good.

Our 10th Meljen's Designs challenge (Can you believe we are up to 10 already?) is Dry Embossing. Stop by the challenge blog to see the inspiration pieces from the DT and to get the details on the challenge.

Have a great day!

Lindsay's Stamp Stuff is Cool!

This Lindsay's Stamp Stuff image brings back memories from my childhood. As a special treat, my dad would occasionally make us floats (brown cows or black cows depending on the soda). It was always a special time because we did not often have dessert or soda when I was a kid. When I was scrolling through my LSS images and preparing to make my project this week, this image just jumped out at me and brought the memories back.

So, what's your favorite? Black cows (made with Coke) or brown cows (made with rootbeer)?

Please take a moment to look at the projects from the rest of the DT. We have a new member on the team, Diane Bove. Give her a warm welcome with some comment love. You'll also want to stop by Lindsay's blog to check out the freebie she is giving away today.

While you are there, sign up for the newsletter because everyone that signs up before June 10th will receive a free image and have their name entered into a draw for a $20 gift certificate. The winner of the gift certificate will be drawn on July 1st.

Now that you have all the important info, on to the eye candy. Aren't these little bees cute? The top bee is layered to give him a little dimension.
Here is a look at the Beehive Yourself digital stamp. I added a different sentiment so I could use it as a birthday card.

Thanks for hopping by. Your next stop on the hop is Lawren's blog. Remember to leave comments on all the blogs for your chance to win the Summer Fun digital stamp set.
